Dear 6th, 7th, 8th Grade Students and Parents,
On behalf of the new coaching staff, Sports Committee Co-Chairs Colleen Keenan and Sandra Peraza want to welcome all our families back to the 2015-2016 academic year. Our school teams join with the Foundation for Interscholastic Youth Athletics League (FIYA ) which opens the Fall Season with Coed Flag Football and Girls Volleyball. Throughout the year, several opportunities for intermural participation in athletics and team sports will be coordinated by City Middle School's coaching staff. Our children will learn a great deal about their sport, and we are looking forward to another fun and exciting season. Active parent participation is an essential requirement for success!
We are very happy to welcome our new Athletics Director, Coach Alan Trattner, who will coach the flag football team and Co-Director, Coach Boris Suarez, who will coach the Girls Volleyball team. We also want thank Coach Stamper, who has transitioned to the City High School, and last year's Sports Committee parents, Andrea Monos and Natalie Stone for all of the great organizing work that allowed the student athletes to accomplish so much last year.
Carpools to practices (located away from City School) and/or games will be organized by the Parents Sports Committee, using the Signup Genius system. There is a suggested participation fee of $100 that helps pay for permits, uniforms, referees and equipment. Please make checks out to the City School with "after school sports" in the memo line. All families must complete registration forms prior to acceptance on the team.
In order to participate in our extracurricular sports teams, students must follow academic and behavioral standards in the classroom. All students must complete classroom/homework assignments, exhibit good citizenship, and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA in all subjects.
We look forward to a great year of athletics and invite your participation.
Alan Trattner, Athletic Director
Boris Suarez, Athletic Co-Director
